Transylvania's fortified Saxon churches
This 120‑page volume presents the breathtaking Saxon fortified churches of Transylvania, located in today’s Romania. Their foundations were laid in the 13th century, while their final defensive form—with towering stone walls—was developed during the 15th and 16th centuries. Built to protect entire Saxon village communities and their belongings, these structures offered refuge against Turkish and Tatar incursions as well as roaming armies. Three of these remarkable monuments are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, underscoring their historical and cultural significance in the region.
